After more than three years, a highly publicized murder case is closed with a guilty verdict on all counts for the second of two men accused of killing a UNC student.
A jury in an Orange County, North Carolina, courtroom found the man guilty of criminal charges, including first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery in the death of Eve Carson.
Carson was found shot to death following the events that took place March 5, 2008.
According to the prosecutor's version of the events, the man and his accomplice, who previously pleaded guilty to the murder, abducted the UNC student body president from her home. They then forced her to into her car and drove around Chapel Hill and Durham to ATMs so they could extract money, about $1,400, according to news reports, from her account. At the conclusion of the night, the men shot Carson to death about a mile from UNC's campus.
Both suspects were arrested in Durham the following week.
The first of the now convicted individuals in the case entered his guilty plea last year to avoid the potential of facing the death penalty. He is now serving a life sentence in federal prison.
The second man entered a not guilty plea to the criminal charges and went to trial last month.
According to news reports, Carson's murder shocked the community and triggered a manhunt for her killers by those who wanted justice.
It took six days for a jury of the second defendant's peers to find him guilty.
